Prostate Cancer Healthy Diet

A person who suffers from prostate cancer suffers from loss of appetite and a number of other physical and emotional discomforts. It is therefore advisable to maintain a healthy diet to prevent prostate cancer. Food rich in lycopene and selenium are said to prevent prostate cancer.

Prostate Cancer Diet is the food to consume when a patient is suffering from prostate cancer. Eating the right kind of food helps the patient to prevent aggravation of the cancer.

Instead of red meat and fatty food the patient has to increase the intake of fish, vegetable and fruits. The patient should go easy on burger and steaks and replace it with more of salads. Men should eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables per day.

Prostate Cancer Diet- Vitamin E:

Taking Vitamin E and selenium as prostate cancer diet daily prevents prostate cancer cells growth. Selenium boosts the body’s antioxidant capacity which increases the body’s immunity and checks the growth of cancer cells. Vitamin E is present in ample amount in nuts & seeds, whole grain, vegetable oils and liver oil. It is a type of antioxidant which slows the oxidative damage of the body. Lean meat, grains, eggs and garlic are rich in selenium.

Getting Protected – Lycopene:

Lycopene is a naturally occurring chemical that is found in tomatoes, papayas, guava and watermelons. It is also found in tomato products like tomato ketchup and spaghetti sauce. A patient cannot consume lots of fruits and vegetables, can take pizzas and pastas generously laced with these sauces.

During the process of normal cellular processes the body produces extra oxygen atoms called free radicals. Lycopene is an antioxidant that prevents the mutation of DNA cells by the free radicals, thus, protecting the growth of cancer cells.

Cruciferous Vegetables:

Protective proteins remove carcinogens from the body to prevent cancer. To prevent protective protein from being removed doctors advise regular eating of cruciferous vegetables a prostate cancer diet. Cruciferous vegetable include, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and bok choy.

These vegetables contain a compound called ‘sulforaphane’ that strengthens the protective protein which becomes more efficient in managing carcinogens and delay cancerous growth.

Consume at least five servings of prostate cancer diet a week in order to get maximum benefit from cruciferous vegetables. Not only does consuming these vegetables lower the risk of cancer but helps leading a healthy life.
