The thyroid gland is located just below the Adam’s apple and is an important organ in any human body. The shape resembles to a butterfly but it is actually more powerful a gland than the other glands.

The main job of a thyroid gland is to secrete hormones namely T3 and T4 with the help from other endocrine glands. They are the reason an infant grows into a kid and later into an adult. The hormonal changes occurring in infants and kids are an effect of the hormonal activity.

The thyroid is the most important gland or organ in the body as they stabilize metabolic activities and also interferes in puberty, organ functioning and fertility.  Most of these hormones also help in building calcium growth. This is the reason why thyroids remain to be the most important element in any human body. They experience problems that sometimes get difficult to understand. It is always better to understand and diagnose thyroids in children before planning the treatment procedure.

Hypothyroidism can be caused due to a weak or inactive thyroid while hyperthyroidism is a result of an overactive thyroid. Doctors will first check for the level of hormone in the body by actually collecting the blood screens and a blood test.  Family medical history does play an important role in identifying the kind of thyroid in an infant. Sometimes iodine deficiency can also cause thyroid problems in kids.

The thyroids remain underdeveloped and fail to secrete necessary hormones into the body. Kids need to have a proper diet if they seem to display certain symptoms of thyroids.

On the contrary kids suffering from hyperthyroidism eventually look over excited and lose an excessive amount of weight, and fail to sleep on time. The facial expression always remains scared and pointblank most of the time. They also face problems when it comes to tolerating heat and cold. Sometimes thyroid nodules are found in kids that can turn into cancer.

Hence a proper scan needs to be done to effect out such a possibility.  It is extremely sad that none of the scientists have ever come across any kind of complete treatment or recovery for thyroids. They hope to come out with a cure for this genetic symptom or issue that messes the whole body making life difficult to cope with.

Thyroid disorders in men and women often create innumerous health problems. Thyroid in women also constitute of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Both their symptoms cause disorders that sometimes get uncontrollable. Most symptoms associated with the thyroid gland needs to be understood well before beginning the procedure of medication. The patient should first visit their family physician that would then connect them either to a therapist or specialized doctor.

Woman often get scared of the kind of treatment procedures that are involved with thyroids. Doctors might suggest either radioactive iodine, replacement of thyroid gland, or a surgery to smoothen things off. However not often do these surgeries put an end to their problems.

Some of the symptoms associated with hyperactive thyroids (hypothyroidism) include feeling depressed most of the time, slow run-down feeling, anxiety, nervousness, backache, uneven concentration, exhaustion, tiredness, slow thinking capacity, constipation, intolerance to cold, unbalanced bowel movements, skin turning rough and dry. Some women also experience harsh cramps and muscle pain due to which they rarely workout in the gyms. Such women should actually switch over to meditation and practicing yoga which can be of a great help. Other issues related to this disorder would be irregularity in menstrual cycle, miscarriage etc.

Hyperthyroidism will also face problems such as excessive sweating, irritation, trembling of hands and legs, nervousness, muscle weakness, low concentration levels, increase in heartbeats, weight loss, loss of appetite, decrease in menstrual flow, irregular periods, brittle and dry skin. It depends on case to case basis and none of them can be considered as a mandatory symptom to understand the possibility of a thyroid gland disorder.

It can only be revealed through a blood test and periodical checking that women face either of these disorders. Also women need to practice to remain happy and mingle with close relatives and friends who would understand their situation. They need to feel chirpy and reveal their problems to their doctor.

Sometimes, women are too scared to go out for the fear of rejection or non-performance. All these can be worked upon if the woman understands the importance of discussing with their concerned doctors. Hence, in case you are a woman and suffer from any of these symptoms kindly get in touch with your doctor immediately and understand the way for a treatment that will enable you to stay focused and concentrate on daily work.

Thyroid problems can basically be divided into two kinds namely hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Both of these are caused due to an imbalance in hormone secretion. The symptoms of all of these differ in both men and women. Now both men and women suffer from thyroid but it is mostly the woman who goes through all these problems.

Men often suffer from thyroids in case there is a major change in their lifestyle and use of certain medications. Most symptoms of thyroid disorders in men are related to their lifestyle habits. They might undergo a major mood change, would get into depression, remain fatigue, get irritated, anxious, and face memory loss. Some of these symptoms will affect their career too.

Most men also face sexual inability and weight loss. These men often have very tiny and brittle nails; skin remains pale and dry for most of the time. These people sweat a lot and have protruding eyes. They might not be able to eat a proper diet as some of the foods will directly come in contact with their thyroid disorder. They will bear sufficient amount of pain in case they want to build muscles and prefer exercising.

Some of the problems associated with men include neurological problems that can be inability to bear cold, decreased mental acuity, a slow fast around time etc. However all these problems get worse if not treated well on time? They may face weight loss or weight gain issues. Some men also face severe thyroid problems in the advanced stages which includes decreased breathing, blood pressure, low body temperature etc. All of them need instant medical attention.

Some might also have a very less sperm count due to which infertility issue crops in. They might undergo a same degree of exhaustion as is the case with woman. They also have to get into some kind of normal activity that will enable them to stay focused throughout the day. But this often happens rarely as most of their time their decision to handle situations backs out. A low performance and low libido will eventually lead to chronic depression.

Men often face rejections in most of their decisions which often makes them depressed and unsorted. Hence, even men need to visit their docs periodically that will help them to get over some of the problems with medications and counseling. The docs can recommend a surgery if the case does not sound too complicated.

Prostate cancer symptoms are not experienced by all patients who suffer from this disease. In many cases, the doctor comes across the prostate cancer during just a routine medical checkup. However, there are some men, who observe abnormalities in their sexual or urinary functions which suggest the problem with the prostate.  In the present times, most men are diagnosed even before any symptoms are seen. It is very important to know about what to look for and the less obvious symptoms.

Common symptoms – It is generally accompanied by many other unique symptoms. This gland is located in the lower part of the pelvis, beneath the bladder. The urine from the bladder passes to the urethra and then passes out. Right at the beginning of this tune, when it leaves the bladder, it passes through this gland, directly. When prostate cancer or any other problem causes the gland to swell, the urethra gets pressed hard and the passage keeps getting narrow till it is completely choked off.

There are 4 main symptoms which are the result of this process.

  1. Frequency – Having to urinate much more frequently than normal.
  2. Urgency – Unable to have the ability to control the urge to urinate.
  3. Nocturnia – The need to get up several times during the night to urinate.
  4. Hesitancy – Difficulty in starting the process.

The symptoms which are mentioned above are widely experienced by all men who suffer from this ailment. The less common symptoms are as follows.

  1. Traces of blood found in semen.
  2. Traces of blood found in urine.
  3. Impotence or the onset of erectile dysfunction.
  4. Pain in bones, especially in areas like the hips, lower back, ribs etc.
  5. Unable to maintain bladder control.

However, these symptoms are not specific to this disease only. But, men should definitely be on the lookout for them.

Whenever one feels the slightest bit of doubt, they should visit their doctor for a complete checkup as it is better to be safe than sorry. Especially, men who are more than 40 years old should be more careful. Most cases of prostate cancer happen only after crossing this age. Those with a history of this disease in the family and African-American men should be even more alert as survey and research has proved that these two groups are most susceptible to this disease. The best course of action is always to seek medical opinion at the earliest.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as prostate adenoma is a benign tumor of the prostate gland that usually starts to develop after 40 years of age. Over 20% of men over the age of 50 suffer from this condition and need active treatment.

Adenoma of the prostate is an enlarged gland that originates in the so-called transition zone of the prostate that surrounds the urethra area of the prostate. It’s a situation that causes various urinary disorders. The age and the presence of male hormones are essential for the emergence of this disease. Adenoma of the prostate is composed of muscle fibers that contract by nerve stimulation, which creates an increase in micturition disorders.

In the early stages of pathology, the obstruction is offset by the increase in bladder pressure due to the development of the musculature of its wall. In the second stage, the bladder is overcome by the obstruction and it expands. This results in the accumulation of residual urine in the bladder after urination, in extreme cases it can reach up to 1,000 to 1,500 cm3 of urine. This dilation of the bladder with urine accumulation inside brings infections, stone formation, bladder diverticulitis formation, dilated upper urinary tree (urethras and kidneys) and even chronic renal failure requiring dialysis.

Symptoms

The typical symptoms of this disease can include delay in urination, thin stream of urine, and lack of strength, dribbling of urine after urination, and symptoms such as increased number of nocturnal voids but mainly diurnal, urgency micturition and so on. Many a times there is an acute urinary retention (AUR), which is the inability to urinate accompanied by intense pain in the lower abdomen (lower belly).

Acute retention of urine may be caused by prolonged travel without having urinated regularly, intake of prostate irritants (hot coffee, mate, etc.) and also by taking some kind of drugs or alcohol.

Treatment

This disease can be treated through medication or surgery. If the patient is above the age of 60, then surgery may not be a viable option due to the risks involved with it. In drug treatment, a series of substances (of plant origin) that act as decongestants for the prostate gland (pygeum africanum, Serenoa repens, etc.) are used. The latest generations of medications are alpha blockers which act by decreasing the contraction, the muscle tone and pressure of the urethra at the prostate, improving urinary stream and sometimes decreasing the amount of urination and residual urine, that remains in the bladder after urination.

Prostatitis is a non cancerous or benign disease of the prostate gland. It involves the inflammation of the prostate which is a gland which is found beneath the urinary bladder and encircles the urethra. It is located before the rectum, and a portion of this gland can be identified, during rectal examinations. This gland plays an important part in the reproductive systems of males.

Almost seventy per cent of the fluids which constitute semen consist of the secretions of this gland. Due to its location, a problem with the prostate gland generally results in urinary problems. The term Prostatitis covers a whole plethora of diseases associated with this gland.

There are four main types of Prostatitis:

  • Acute bacterial
  • Chronic bacterial
  • Chronic Prostatitis which does not involve any infection
  • Asymptomatic inflammatory type of Prostatitis

Symptoms:

Some of those bacteria which cause infections of the bladder are responsible for Acute bacterial type of Prostatitis. It can also be sexually transmitted and the infection could spread through a person’s blood stream to his prostate gland.

The symptoms are chills, fever and trembling. There is also increased frequency and urgency in urination. Chronic bacterial type is a very rare form of Prostatitis and results from an existing bacterial infection already present in this gland. There are no symptoms other than bladder infection. Chronic Prostatitis is also known as chronic pelvic-pain syndrome.

Rectal, testicle or pelvic pain is recurrent but there is no infection. Ejaculation and urination may be painful and there could be erectile dysfunction. The causes have not been identified yet. Asymptomatic inflammatory type is as the name suggests. There are no symptoms at all and the causes have still not been identified.

Diagnosis:

This largely depends on the doctor, who has to carefully go through the patient’s medical history and do all kinds of tests. Urinalysis is conducted to determine the exact kind of Prostatitis. X-ray, computerized tomography and ultrasound testing might also be required.

Treatment:

The major part of treatment is based on antibiotics which are administered though the patient’s mouth. Doctors also prescribe pain killers, plenty of fluids and sufficient rest. For acute cases or a weak immune system, intravenous antibiotics along with specialized care will be required. Some of the antibiotics which are prescribed may be long term.

Doctors may also ask the patient to undergo relaxation therapy, depending upon the type of Prostatitis.

Pregnancy may have some chances of STD with it, if sex before pregnancy was not completely genuine and a virus affected person was there between man and woman. STD is sexually transmitted disease which is being followed by wrong sex ways. Scientifically we may understand it as that this is a transmission of infections organism between sex partners.

When a person suffers from hepatitis, his liver in inflated and it stops working properly. There are three types of Hepatitis, namely Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.

Anyone can catch it, but there are certain groups of people who are more likely:

  • People who have received blood transfusions.
  • People who have sexual contact with a infected person, and
  • Men who have sex with men.

Symptoms of Hepatitis

Symptoms of the disease are common for all forms of hepatitis, whether it’s A, B or C.

The common symptoms are:

  • Fatigue
  • Sickness
  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite
  • Stomach ache
  • Diarrhea
  • Symptoms present only some people
  • Darkening of urine
  • Colored droppings

Treatments of Hepatitis

Most people, who have hepatitis A or hepatitis B, recover on their own after a few weeks. However, it is very important to follow some guidelines:

  • Bed rest for several days or weeks depending on the overall condition of the person;
  • Follow a diet rich in protein and low in fat (to lower the blood level of transaminases);
  • Drink plenty of fluids (water or juice);
  • Do not drink alcohol until you are completely cured;
  • Take the medicines your doctor prescribes
  • Prevent consuming certain types of drugs such as painkillers and tranquilizers.

Those who do not recover on their own, like in acute cases of Hepatitis B, have to take different anti-viral drugs (mainly lamivudine), which are prescribed by their physician.

Hepatitis C has to be treated with drugs, if patients don’t recover on their own within a couple of months. Most commonly used drugs are ribavivirin (anti-viral) and peginterferon.

Chancroid is a contagious infection which is caused by the bacterium, Haemophilus ducreyi. Chancroid, also known as chancre, is a sexually transmitted disease, which is quite common in tropical and sub-tropical regions, but it’s rare in other parts of the world. It is characterized by the appearance of one or more painful ulcers and suppuration of the inguinal lymph nodes. It is often associated with poor hygiene and is common among young people who have sex with commercial sex workers on a regular basis.

Symptoms and signs of chancroid

The chancroid symptoms appear between 4 and 7 days after having contracted the infection. The first evidence of chancre is usually the appearance of one or more sores on the genitals. These ulcers are surrounded by a thin red rim, which gets filled with pus. After a short period of time, the ulcers break to leave open wounds, which are very painful in nature. These ulcers may be located in the penis, vagina, anus, vulva or uterus.

Prevention and treatment of chancroid

Since chancroid is a sexually transmitted disease, like all other STDs, the first step for preventing this disease is to be careful before indulging in any sort of sexual relationship. One should also take proper care of their personal hygiene, especially after having intercourse.  Indulging in safe sex, using condoms properly and avoiding overly promiscuous behavior, would also help to minimize the impact of this disease.

In most cases, doctors and sexologists prescribe antibiotics to treat this disease. The most effective antibiotics, which are used, include azithromycin, ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, and ceftriaxone. In cases where major inflammation of the lymph nodes occurs, it will be necessary to drain the fluid, either with a needle or through local surgery.

A fact that everyone should know is that, suffering from this disease does not guarantee immunity against it, so it can contract again, unless we take appropriate prophylactic measures.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases are the most common infectious diseases caused by the micro organisms and spread through any type of sexual activity, involving the sex organs.  These diseases are also termed as sexually Transmitted Infections.

Most Sexually Transmitted Diseases affect both men and women, but in many cases the health problems could be more severe for women. A pregnant mother can pass on the infections to her baby. The infection could be caused by bacteria/parasite or virus.

General symptoms of Sexually Transmitted Diseases:

  • Vaginal discharge. In case of men, discharge from the penis
  • Itching around the Vagina
  • Pain during sexual intercourse or in the pelvic area
  • Sore throat
  • Pain in or around the anus
  • Pain while urinating
  • Painless red sores on the genital area, tongue, anus or throat
  • Blisters in the genital area that turn into scabs
  • Rash on the palms or soles
  • Unexplained fatigue and weight loss
  • Frequent fever and body ache
  • Dark urine, loose, light colored stool and yellow eyes and skin
  • Soft, flesh colored warts around the genital area

One should always look for signs of a Sexually Transmitted Infection in his/her sex partner. Since Sexually Transmitted Diseases do not always cause visible symptoms, you should always take preventive measures before hand.  Use of latex condoms in case of men and female condoms in case of women could avoid spreading of infections. However, female condoms are not as effective in preventing Sexually Transmitted Diseases as male condoms are.

You should always wash your genitals and the surrounding areas with special cleansers and water and always urinate soon after you have a sexual intercourse. This would clear away some infection causing micro organisms before they can infect you. You should also be cautious about using injections at medical centers.  Always check if the syringes are sterilized. This is because; Sexually Transmitted Infections could also infect you by using infected syringes. A little precaution could help you to avoid such dreadful diseases to affect you in the long run.
